Berry Banana Smoothie Bowl

Over the years, I've seen so many pictures of beautiful, delicious looking smoothie bowls. I've googled recipes before, and saw that they're pretty easy to make. However, I never actually decided to try one out until today - a cold, snowy day in February, of all days. I was definitely not disappointed! It was so delicious and filling, not to mention it packed quite the punch of nutrients. It was also so fun for me to pick out the toppings, and arrange them in an artistic manner!

Smoothie base ingredients:

1 1/2 cups frozen berries or berry mix of your choice (I used 1 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup blueberries)
1 scoop vegan protein powder (I used Arbonne's vanilla protein mix)
1/2 to 3/4 cups water (depending on how thick you want the smoothie base)
1 banana (fresh)

Toppings (you can choose whatever you like - these are the ones I used):

1/2 fresh banana, sliced
Chia seeds
Fresh blueberries
Unsweetened shredded coconut
Homemade gluten free granola (see Health & Wellness page for link on how to make this)

Directions:

Blend all of smoothie base ingredients together in blender - I recommend starting with 1/2 cup of water, then adding more if you find the consistency is too thick. You might have to give the mixture a couple of stirs in between blending, but everything should mix well to form a smooth, thick base for your toppings.

Top with whatever you'd like! I really enjoy the art of food aesthetics, so it was super fun for me to create the patterns in the above picture. 

Some other suggestions for toppings:

Almonds
Nut butters
Cacao nibs
Dried goji berries
Fresh fruit of your choosing (i.e. kiwi, persimmon, strawberries, raspberries)

The possibilities are endless! I will definitely be making more of these in the future - stay tuned :)
